Root
Canal Treatment
What is root canal
treatment?
Teeth have small canals inside their roots
where the nerve and blood vessels are
located. For a variety of reasons, these
nerve and blood vessels can become infected.
Root canal treatment cleans the infected
material from the root canals and refills
the canals with a sealer to prevent future
infections.
Whom does root canal
treatment benefit?
Root canal treatment allows a person to
save a tooth that would otherwise have
to be removed. If a tooth is in good condition
it makes sense to save it with root canal
treatment. If a tooth has other serious
problems, removing the tooth and replacing
it with a dental implant may be a better
choice. A thorough dental examination
is indicated to determine which is the
better option.
How is it done?
A dentist removes the infection inside
the root canals. A special sealer is used
to fill the canals. In some instances,
in order to further strengthen the tooth,
a crown is placed over the tooth.
