Equilibration
What is equilibration?
Equilibration is the process of adjusting your bite so that you
teeth meet evenly and work in harmony with your jaw system.
Why is having an even bite important?
An uneven bite can cause many problems, including excessive wear
and breakage of teeth, loose teeth, jaw muscle paint, jaw joint
pain, headaches, and other problems. Also, it is very important
to have an even bite before beginning restorative dentistry, so
the new dentistry fits in well with your bite and jaw movements.
How is equilibration performed?
High spots on your teeth that receive excess pressure or interfere
with jaw movement are smoothed and polished to bite and chew evenly
with your other teeth. This is a gentle procedure that required
no numbing.
